Michigan State University (MSU): Known internationally as a major U.S. public university with global reach, Michigan State University has been advancing knowledge and transforming lives through innovative teaching, research, and outreach for over 150 years. College of Education, Michigan State University (MSU): The College of Education at MSU is one of the leading institutions in the nation for pursuing a career in education and serves as a model for other programs of professional education. It offers outstanding opportunities for students, faculty and staff through its strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching and service. The college is home to 154 faculty members and comprised of the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education, the Department of Educational Administration, the Department of Kinesiology, and the Department of Teacher Education. The college is nationally and internationally known for its research on teaching and learning. The 2007 U.S. News and World Report annual survey ranked the college's elementary and secondary education graduate programs as the best in the nation for the twelfth consecutive year. The college had eight programs ranked in the top 10. In all, the college's research efforts total more than $12.5 million annually. This past year, the college awarded 369 bachelor's degrees, 570 master's degrees, 13 educational specialist degrees, and 58 doctoral degrees and 532 students completed internships as the conclusion of the initial teacher certification program.
National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (Hanban): The Chinese government attaches great importance to the promotion of Chinese language throughout the world. The National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOTCFL) was established in 1987 in order to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and other peoples of the world, to promote economic and trade cooperation, and to promote scientific, technological and cultural exchanges. Hanban promotes friendly relationships with other countries and enhances the understanding of the Chinese language and culture by providing opportunities for high quality learning experiences. Hanban is charged with setting up Confucius Institutes around the world, whose major activities include teaching Chinese. Hanban plans to set up 100 Confucius Institutes around the world by the year 2010. So far, sixty-six Confucius Institutes have been announced as well as dozens of Confucius classrooms.
China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU): CCRTVU is an educational institution under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education of P.R. China. The CCRTVU offers, on a nationwide basis, multi-media courses through radio, TV, print, audio-visional materials and computer networks. CCRTVU textbooks and courses were created by an elite corps of more than 1,300 eminent professors and specialists from prestigious universities and institutes such as Tsinghua University, Beijing University, and China People’s University. CCRTVU was the first in China to develop a modern long distance teaching model using satellite and computer networks.
Michigan Virtual University (MVU): Michigan Virtual University (MVU) is a private, not-for-profit Michigan corporation established in 1998 to deliver online education and training opportunities to the citizens of Michigan. The primary motivation for creating MVU was to support the state's economic development by providing convenient and cost-effective education and training to Michigan's current and future workforce. MVU has served as a leading proponent of e-learning in both the commercial and education fields. Today, MVU works with the K-12 community to accelerate change in public education to promote 21st Century learning skills for students and educators. MVU also provides online professional development opportunities for educators and Web-based career resources for students and parents.
Michigan Virtual High School (MVHS): MVHS was funded by the Michigan Legislature in July 2000 to be operated by the Michigan Virtual University. The MVHS, is a private, not-for-profit Michigan corporation. Through the use of high-quality on-line learning experiences, the Michigan Virtual High School (MVHS) enables Michigan high schools to provide students with courses and other learning tools that the districts might not otherwise be able to provide. Since its inception, the MVHS has had more than 23,000 course enrollments and served more than 126,000 students with an online ACT, SAT, PSAT or Michigan assessment review tool. The MVHS was awarded accreditation by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) in 2005.
The US-China Center
for Research on Educational Excellence: Founded in 2004 with a generous endowment of
5 million US dollars from the Hong Kong-based Sunwah Education Foundation, the Center aims to
develop and disseminate effective models of education that integrate the strengths of both Eastern
and Western educational practices through scientific research on excellent schools and educational
programs in China and the United States. Since its establishment, the Center has evolved into a
leading institution in research on education in the United States and China based on its significant
research and service.
